In a previous meta-analysis, mammals with large home ranges, low reproductive rates and large body sizes were found to respond most negatively to roads. This study updates and expands the classic Rytwinski & Fahrig (2012) meta-analysis, using a much larger dataset to identify which mammal traits make species most at risk from roads. The findings highlight that road impacts go beyond large mammals — smaller species with low reproductive rates and extensive home ranges can be even more vulnerable.
