Constituent Engagement

Expert design and facilitation to thoughtfully engage the people who matter most

Landscapes can only be connected when people are connected and working towards common goals. Research has demonstrated that conservation success is more likely to occur when those who live, work, and recreate in a shared geography come together to develop and work towards a shared vision. Through NatureConnect, we can help facilitate this critical aspect of conservation by coordinating a variety of meetings and workshops. In-person and virtual gatherings are essential to effective and equitable connectivity planning, design, and implementation, and are intended to foster true collaboration among rightsholders and interested parties. While an ideal first step, constituent engagement can occur at any time.

We convene and facilitate workshops alongside local partners, advising on the overall process and assisting with all stages, from setting an agenda and inviting diverse constituencies, to facilitating panels and breakout groups, to writing and disseminating outcome reports and action plans.  Examples include:

  • Hosted ecological network and corridor planning workshops in the Romanian Carpathians (2019),  Turkmen Mountains of Koytendag (2023), and the Canadian Province of Quebec (2024) based on the IUCN ‘Guidelines for conserving connectivity through ecological networks and corridors.’

  • Supported, in partnership with the Appalachian Landscape Climate Advisory Group, an inventory of existing information, helped identify gaps in knowledge and resources, and highlighted best opportunities for conservation actions for an Appalachian Climate Corridor.

  • Designed and conducted a workshop for agencies and practitioners in the U.S. and Mexico, who are working to save the endangered Sonoran pronghorn, to map threats and critical pronghorn habitat and movement areas, compile relevant data, and agree on next steps.
