The report focuses on land as a social-ecological system and its interactions with freshwater systems and terrestrial and freshwater biodiversity. It also considers the connections between these systems through the natural and social processes that create ecological connectivity. It explores the potential of enhanced ecological connectivity to promote sustainable land management and restoration, addressing global environmental crises such as desertification, land degradation and drought, biodiversity loss and climate change. The report was produced by a team led by the Center for Large Landscape Conservation and the secretariats of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Convention on Migratory Species.
