Gabriel Oppler

International Connectivity Program, Policy & Partnerships Specialist

Gabe supports the Center’s efforts to foster collaboration and the application of science, policy, and practice for connectivity conservation around the world. In particular, Gabe helps facilitate cooperation among networks of experts and institutions, coordinates the Center’s participation in policy fora, and assists with connectivity planning and implementation initiatives with international partners.

For his Master’s thesis, he conducted research in Ecuador on the implementation of a large-scale ecological corridor in the country’s south-eastern Andes. Through interviews with key stakeholders and field visits, he explored the ways in which the corridor’s planners seek to protect biodiversity while sustaining rural livelihoods.

Prior to joining the Center in 2019, Gabe gained experience in field ecology—studying botany in Wisconsin and tropical soils in Panama. Gabe has also served as an environmental educator in California and Colorado, where he worked to encourage natural science literacy and environmental stewardship among elementary and middle school students.

Gabe is proficient in Spanish. He is also an avid soccer player and enjoys skiing, backpacking, running, cooking, and landscape photography.
