Statement from Gary Tabor, president of the Center for Large Landscape Conservation, on the Biden administration’s “Conserving and Restoring America the Beautiful” report, which recommends a national, 10-year, locally led campaign to restore the nation’s lands and waters:
“As a hub of collaborative conservation, the Center for Large Landscape Conservation is encouraged to see the Biden administration recognize that elevating new voices and convening dialogues among diverse stakeholders is essential for addressing the nature and climate crises and achieving 30×30. For these efforts to be inclusive and successful in the long-term, the needs and perspectives of all people must be at the heart of our nation’s approach to safeguard our shared natural heritage and biodiversity for future generations. We believe that it is especially crucial that Tribal Nations, as long-time stewards of the land, are leaders in conservation and restoration projects. Additionally, we value working landscapes as important to the social and ecological fabric of communities across the country.
“Also of great significance, the report emphasizes as an immediate next step collaborative and science-based conservation and restoration of wildlife corridors, fish passage, and seasonal habitat, recognizing the critical importance of ecological connectivity in achieving conservation goals.
